Sunday Afternoon

Sunday afternoon without MJ, the girls and
their family sucks.
Yeah, things are very quiet here, ah, so what!
Life is too short to crave the quiet over the warmth
and excitement of having those that you love,
and love serving not around you.
I can't even turn "it" off. Here are two chickens,
roasted and smoked on the Weber. But to what
end? Maybe Jill will come over tomorrow and
take some home.
I love all of you so much.

And now, for something completely different.

MJ and I had L over night last night.
What a joy it is being around her.
This is a picture that Jilly took the other day.

M,,,,We All Miss You!

Where's my sous chef?

He'd better be bringing back a good recipe
for menudo or de visceras,,,,,or possibly the
Lopez family pozole recipe.
We love you guys, have a great visit.

First Steak On The Weber

This is a porterhouse, 1 3/4" thick, purchased
from Kingma's.

The garden goddess with some of her worshipers.

Finished steak with potato bake and rice.

Back In Mexico

Yep, we´re in Mexico! I uploaded this photo at the cybercafe across the street from my inlaws (a new business) and the computer is so slow, this is the only photo I will send for now. Maybe I´ll get a chance to send more from Rose´s tonight.

The Lopezs In Morelia

We talked to Em today.
They arrived at the Lopez home by about 5 AM this morning.
There was a 2 hour delay on the tarmac at O'Hare, because
of de-icing.
Sergio's family was at the airport to greet them. I'd love
to have seen the scene.
It's great to imagine M getting to know his Mexican family again.
Hopefully we will have pictures soon that we can share.

M & L At The Park And Some Sad News

Sergio's Grandmother died either last night or this
morning. She had been ill for quite a long time
and was worse the last few weeks.
The Lopezs are on their way to Chicago as I type this
for a direct flight into Morelia.
Weird coincidence, their very good friend Rose
has travel plans for going back to Morelia, turns out
they will be on the same flight tonight. They all will be
traveling in good company.
The Lopezs will return on April 9th, don't
say it, I know, MAJOR M withdrawl!
It is great to think about him with his other
Grandparents again.
So, please keep Em, Sergio and M in your
thoughts, thank you.

Saturday Prep And M & L

Lots of prep for tomorrow's dinner.
Here we have rhubarb upside down cake
part du. Jilly helped with the prep. We used
a lemon cake mix. Should be great, will use fresh
creme chantilly.

The finished cake.
There was lots of prepping and listening to
NPR weekend radio. NPR is good, but on the
weekend, they shine.

Leg of lamb ready to be smoked on the new
weber grill. This is a boned leg, spiked
with garlic.

Mint sauce for the lamb. This is so much better
than mint jelly. Beef broth, shallots, vinegar,
sugar and lots of mint!

OMG, L is developing into such a wonderful
little girl. OK, this isn't the best picture, but
believe me, please, she is so great to have around!

M is enjoying a late afternoon snack.

Lunch And A Late Snow Fall

We had lunch with the L and Jill and L and Michael
this afternoon.

M was pretty tired to begin with, but,,,,,

woke up when it was time to check out the
kitchen with Grandpa! Careful, that's hot.

MJ had some spring decorations on the front
portch. These cat tails had to come in before
the water froze and broke the vase.

MJ had a neat little can thingy with some easter

decorations. Oh, and check out the snow.

Our Sunday

Jill and L were with us most of the day.

Our new Weber. It's been a long time since
I've used a charcoal grill. It was great, a much
more elemental experience.

Pork ribs, slow cooking with apple chip smoke.

Lookin and smellin good!

Corned beef simmering and bacon sauteing. The
bacon was added to a cabbage bake.

The beginings of a rhubarb upside down cake,
which, unfortunately became just that. I put
the cake on the roof of our car and, well, you
get the picture:>(

SMOKIN!

From Last Year

Jill pointed this out.
Last year.

Cornucopia That Was Our Sunday

Jill and L visited with us for a good part of the day.
This is L just before she tried some cereal, then
finished with her bottle.

Our new Weber, with help from our old gas grill.

Pork ribs smoking.

Done.

Corned beef simmering and bacon sauteing in
preparation for onions and cabbage.

L lunch and rhubarb upside down cake, which
unfortunately, I seemed to have placed on the roof
of Suzu before we went to the Lopez, which made it
a real, upside down cake.

L having fun with her fingers.
